An Interview With Teimosa Martin, Mid-Atlantic Regional Vice President of The Achievement Network

Name: Ben Connolly

Social Justice Group: Race and Education

Date of Fieldwork: December 14, 2017

Name of Organization: The Achievement Network

Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: Teimosa Martin

Type of Fieldwork: Interview

What I did:

We asked Teimosa to meet with us for an interview, so she came to LREI. We started by her asking what Education Equity meant to us, and then we asked her some questions about her experiences and why she’s so passionate about what she does.

What I learned:

We learned a lot about how the Achievement Network goes about taking on poor curriculum. We also learned that depending on where students lived, it impacted the quality of education and the qualification of teachers. Another thing was that in Africa, by the sixth grade, most of the students drop out.

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

This interview helped us learn a lot about education outside LREI. Unlike our interview with Chap, we can really get a grasp for what education is like outside of a private school. It’s nice to know how organizations really deal with educational equity, and unqualified teachers.
