Interview With Mathew Bolton

Today we interviewed Matthew Bolton a professor at Pace University working on weapons disarmament especially concerning Nuclear Weapons. It was so interesting to hear what he had to say about our topic and how much he had witnessed himself. He talked about how, during a kid he grew up in a city that was a Nuclear Weapons Free zone and how he went to a protest as a kid. But later after coledge he worked as an aid worker in Boznia and Iraq and those placeswich where riddled with left over land mines wich drived him to come to America to work for the UN and try to get rid of these weapon. We also learned about the Manhattan Project wich was the first attempt of the US military to build Nuclar weapons and that started in Manhattan and those nukes are still being cleaned up there’s even one sight in chelsea not too far from LREI called The Baker Williams Warehouses that store uranium. He talked about how a russian plane came over NYC one time during the early 70’s and one of the Nuclear sites in Sandy Hook New Jersey was in the countdown to fire and got to about three or two and came within seconds of flying a Nuclear weapon on it before someone allerted them that it was only a commercial plane flying over.

But hea also talked about how there has been a change and how there are much less Nuclear Weapons now than there where during the Cold War amd how in 2021 NYC passed a ledgeslation passed and calling to divest the city’s pentions from Nuclear Weapions production although that has not happened. It took from 2018 to 2021 for that legslation to be passed. But that half a billion dollars in NYC’s go to Nuclear Weapons. We also talked about this youth group called Youth For The TPNW and is for young people only from High School to the age of Colledg and are wotking to get more countries to join the Treaty On The Proebhition Of Nuclear Weapons wich is a treaty that banns Nuclear Weapons. He suggested righting to Brad Lander who is the head of our district to make sure that NYC stays a Nuclear Free Zone ( NFZ )

overall he was very helpfull and abvously knew a lot about what he was our topic and Nuclear Weapons in general and it was so nice to talk to him.
