The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin

I recommend the book The Westing Game if you like mystery. It is by Ellen Raskin. The book is about a man and his will. He is said to have been murdered  and there are 16 people who live in a building and they are the suspects.

The story takes place in an apartment building called Sunset Tower.  Also at one point in the book there is a bomber. The bomber injures three people including itself. Thats not the only problem, someone is stealing stuff and in the end they find out who it is. So    back to the topic, they are put into pairs and each pair gets some clues and they have to figure out who killed Mr. Westing out of all of them. One clue that Mr. Westing gives is, “ It is not about what you have, its what you don’t have that matters.”

But Mr. Westing wants one person to be caught. The thing I liked the most about this book is the way it ends, but you should still read the whole book because it is all good. So I would rate this book ten stars out of five. **********.

City of Orphans by Avi

imgresThis book is about a newsie named Maks. Obviously he’s a newsie and he needs to get money for his family but there’s this gang called the Plug Uglies. The Plug Uglies steel newsies money. Maks however gets saved by this girl named Willa. Maks is a willing and nice boy and seems to get a lot of friends. The book takes place on the lower east side back in the 1910s.

After a while Maks goes home and his mother tells him that one of his sisters is in jail for ___________ (I don’t want to ruin it). And he has to go save her and he has a detective to help him get his sister out of jail. He has to go to the hotel that his sister worked at and got arrested at and find clues. The reason I know Bruno is mad is because he says “I’m going to get you”. Bruno’s boss is Brunswick. He tells Bruno what to do. Bruno brings the money that he stole to Brunswick.

I loved this book because it’s full of action. I would recommend it to people who like history and action and cliffhangers. I would rate this book a ten because it was even better than 5 stars.

Watch The Skies Daniel X by James Patterson

imgresWatch The Skies Daniel X by James Patterson is the second book in the Daniel X series. The main character is Daniel, who’s an alien hunter  which is someone that fights bad aliens but Daniel is a good alien. Daniel is a little violent sometimes since he fights aliens much more powerful than him. I know that since he has something called the list of alien outlaws on Terra Firma A.K.A. Earth and he’s trying to kill all of them but now he’s battling the toughies which are the aliens with a rating higher than 10. The setting of the book is in a town called Holliswood.

Daniel is very cool since he has powers. He can create stuff including people and can teleport himself to different places. Hid dad taught him to teleport and his dad is really happy he can teleport so at one time in the book Daniel wants to go to London so his dad said “Why don’t you teleport yourself there?” His problem is to stop Number 5 on his list of alien outlaws on Terra Firma and number 1 is the strongest alien (See, I told you he’s fighting toughies!) Number 5 is able to go into any electronic device which is a problem for Daniel and he made all the women in Holliswood have baby number 5s since he sent everyone fish eggs that made them have baby number 5s

I really enjoyed the book since it has aliens in it and I think aliens are cool. I would recommend this book to people who like adventure and violence since the book is a big adventure and super violent. I would give this book a 5 star rating out of 5 stars.

A Tale Dark And Grim By Adam Gidzwits

A Tale Dark And Grimm

By Adem Gidzwits.

In this book there are 2 main characters, Hansel and Gretel. Hansel and Gretel love adventures! They go on all types of adventures. This book takes place in a lot of places. 1 place is the woods, Other places is a house, or a town. This  book has a lot of bloody details.

Throughout the story, Hansel and Gretel have to work together and power through scarey times. Hansel and Gretel are siblings who get along. They both love scarey! There are many people that are rude to Hansel and Gretel in the story. I really think this book is an adventure!

I enjoyed this book a lot. I liked the part when the witch almost eats them and a lot of other scarey parts. I would recommend this book who can handle gruesomeness and blood. And it is a little scarey. I would rate this book 4 **** out of 5*****.

And that is why I liked the book! you should read it.

The Battle Of the Labyrinth By Rick Riordan

The book I recently read was The Battle Of The Labyrinth, By Rick Riordan. The main characters of the book are Percy Jackson who is the Son of Poseidon, Annabeth who is the daughter of Athena, and Grover, a satyr. Percy and Annabeth are both half-bloods. Half-bloods are half human and half god. Grover, the satyr, is half human and half goat. The book takes place mostly at camp half-blood, but a lot of the time the main characters are also in the Labyrinth.

The Labyrinth is an underground maze that a lot of people never get out of. They are in the labyrinth because the council is going to take Grover’s searchers license if he doesn’t find Pan.

I really enjoyed this book. I would recommend this book to people that like action, and fantasy. I rate this book 4½-5 stars. Hope you read it!

Out of My Mind, By Sharon M. Draper

imgres-2Out of My Mind is a… so so book in my opinion.

It is about a 11 year old girl named Melody, who; can’t walk, talk, or have controlled movements (besides her thumbs.) Her doctors said she could never live anything near a normal life. Her parents said no but the doctors said yes. Her mom would get angry at them, but that didn’t change their mind one bit.

The only way she can communicate is by a board that has a bunch of words on it, made by misses V: her baby sitter. She knows Melody is smart, and Melody’s parents know too.

The school year is starting and it’s Melody’s first year of middle school. She is in the same classroom; the one for the kids with disabilities in the school. She learns the abc’s and 123’s again, and again, and again.

Her teachers say no, she’s not smart she’s retarded.  Melody thinks they think she is to dumb to hear them.

But now, Melody has a chance, a chance to have fun. Not watching the ‘normal’ kids play at recess. Her chance is a new type of class; one where she can be with the normal kids in the grade.

Sometimes Melody gets nervous and she drools and sometime has ‘tornados’ where she freaks out and makes weird sounds and kicks and  screams.

This is a knew beginning to her knew life.

And that’s where her adventure begins. It is kind of like East Side Story where it has a really bad ending. I would rate this 3 out of 5 stars.

The Vanishing Coin By Kate Egan, Eric Wight, and Magician Mike Lane

The Vanishing Coin, by Kate Egan, Eric Wight, and magician Mike Lane is about a kid named Mike who prefers to do magic tricks instead of his homework. In his own words he’s not so smart because it takes him a while to finish his homework.

The settings of the book are the school, his house, Nora’s house, and the White Rabbit. The White Rabbit is an antique store but when Nora and Mike go to the back of the store they find out that it is also a magic store. Nora is a girl that moved next door to Mike. Mike thinks she’s amazing because she is very very smart.

Mike always ends up in the principal’s office, at least once a week. The reason he gets in the principal’s office is because he can’t sit still. Mike’s enemy’s name is Jackson, Jackson is a bully and he is always teasing Mike. Nora sometimes helps Mike with his problems. For example, when Nora and Mike and Nora’s Mom had to go to the dentist Nora knew that he was getting mad because he can’t sit still so Nora asked to take a walk.

I enjoyed this book because it actually tells you how to do magic tricks. One of the tricks you can learn is how to make a coin vanish. I recommend this book to people who like magic, and are looking for a quick read. I rate this book 4-5 stars.

PS, you may only find this book on the fourth grade shelf in the library.

Reel Life Starring Us, Lisa Greenwald

This book was a really good book. It is about two girls, one named Dina and the other Chelsea. It is about popularity and everything is about how popular you are and how you look. The chapters switch so it’s really fun to read it. The girls are in 8th grade and have to work on a video project together, that’s where they get to know each other.

I rate this book three stars out of five, because I think it was too long when it came to explaining what they were doing.

Alexander Baddenfield, John Bemelmans Marciano

The 9 lives of Alexander Baddenfield had a very, very, very slow start but got an exciting twist and a great plot after the first 30 or so pages.

Alexander is a boy who wants nine lives because if his family curse. He is rich so he asks a doctor to get him 9 lives. After he gets the nine lives he starts wasting his lives until he is down to one. See what happens to him next if you read the book.
