Reflection:

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

In our interview with Saadiq Bey, a former research associate at Vera Institute of Justice and Youth Diversion & Initiatives in the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, said that a race based legal system is created when one group of people prevented from self actualizing. That means that they can’t be themselves and reach their full potential. Because of this white people have looked down on the people that the system disregards and that gives them a sense of power so they project that negativity onto other people.
