What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:
She told us that she feels like there are definitely a lot more women in the industry than when she first started out, though they are far from parity, and that they are making progress, but it is slow. She also gave us some examples of times where men had the upper hand, when a less experienced man got the director role for a movie over her, and when they wouldn’t fund ‘the beguiled’ without a male star despite already having 3 huge female stars. She also spoke a little about the balance between working in the film industry and being a mother.
