Reflection:

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

I learned that schools have had to “battle” teacher unions to get kids back in school. When we talked with Principal Kehn, she said that is one of the two main things holding her kids back from going in-person. The second main thing being the positivity rate in that area. Many of the kids going to her school come from homes that are poorer and don’t the money to get nanny’s or wifi so their kids can be online/virtual. We know that kids aren’t able to learn as much online as they do in-person, so when we asked if there was a plan to teach these kid what they have lost. She said not really, she said it would be the same as if they failed during regular times and would have to make up the work during the next trimester. Now, you may see a problem with that, if the kids weren’t able to learn the things last trimester because you have bad internet or problems at home. How are you going to learn it now?
