What I did:

We left around 2:00 to travel up to the Bronx where an organization called Homes for the Homeless is. We brought many children’s books to read to some pre K children. We brought many of our favorite books from when we were younger. We got to take turns having read aloud and also played with the kids.

What I learned:

The kids really like people who come and visit. I learned that these kids were really eager to learn and look at the pictures. They had short attention spans but tried their hardest to keep listening. I think that reading books can improve. The kids are also served breakfast, which is really good that places like this are supplying food for kids who need those things. It can make people going through housing instability feel a lot better about their situation.

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

I learned that even entertaining kids can help them. Looking at images and hearing books is good for vocabulary building. It also gave the teachers a break and makes the kids really happy.
