Interview with Tate Benson

Name: Zariel Cruz

Social Justice Group: 2018-2019, LGBTQIA Youth & Coming Out

Date of Fieldwork: January 10, 2019

Name of Organization: GLSEN

Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: We met with Tate Benson from GLSEN

Type of Fieldwork: Interview

What I did:

We went to lpq and met with Tate, they showed us different forms and they taught us about what GLSEN does.

What I learned:

I learned that GLSEN hosts an annual no name calling week, a week dedicated to accepting everyone no matter their sexuality. I also learned that GLSEN hosts a lot of events and they have a lot of lesson plans and flyers that can help inform people about LGBTQ.

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

I learned more about the struggles that transgender people face on a daily basis. Tate showed us many court cases of transgender people being called the wrong pronouns.
