What I did:

We interviewed Danielle over face time about her pregnancy experience. Danielle explained to us the struggle she had during delivery and taught us lots more about our topic.

What I learned:

Danielle talked a lot about her complications during her delivery. Everything was going fine until all of a sudden every possible thing went wrong. Her baby was stuck on her pelvis and when the doctors and nurses were called in they realized the umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby’s throat and she had not been breathing. There was no time for a c section so they were forced to cut her open and give the baby CPR directly in front of her. After the baby was ok Danielle had lost so much blood she became severely anemic. She was not able to function for a long time and was not even able to take care of her baby. On top of this she has Olcertic Coliteis and was not taking all the vitamins she needed for the pregnancy. We learned how pregnancies are very unpredictable and how dangerous they are. Many people think pregnancies are quite easy when however there are so many things that could go wrong in any moment.

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

During this interview we learned the dangers of delivery and why there is such a high maternal death rate. So many women every day die because of child birth and imagine outside of the U.S, so many women do not have access to so many necessities.
