Interview With Jennie Runk 1.23.17

For our fourth fieldwork, Kiki had arranged for us to interview with plus-sized model for Jennie Runk. Jennie Runk began modeling when she was 14. She was discovered at a show, and she was the only plus sized model in the room. “I was a size 14 in a room filled of size 0s and 2s,” she said.

We held the interview over FaceTime in an empty room on the third floor of the Little Red School House. We had prepared our questions for her the night before.

We stared off the interview by explaining to her about our project and the work that we were doing for our Women in the Media group. Then, we started the questions.

Throughout the interview, Jennie was very well spoken and kind. She told us how when she was at the first show, where everyone else was 0s and 2s, she felt very uncomfortable. But she then said how her not conforming to the norm is what got her discovered in the first place.

When we asked her what a girl should do when in a relationship, romantic or just friendly, that is lowering her self esteem, she said that that is not a relationship that we should be in. “You deserve someone who treats you right, and you need to find that.”

Interviewing Jennie Runk was an interview that I will never forget. She spoke so eloquently and was very kind.
