Social Justice Group: 2020-2021, Poverty & Abortion Access

Date of Fieldwork: February 25, 2021

Person (people) with whom you met and their title(s) & Name of Organization: Jack Rayburn

Type of Fieldwork: Interview

Reflection:

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

We learned that we have a system where a subset of voters can dictate what healthcare services are or aren’t available. They are going to effectively veto the use of taxpayer dollars for those services, which means we are carving out certain parts of the population (low income people, those who use Medicaid, LGBTQ people, and POC) who already face barriers to accessing high quality healthcare including abortion.
