What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

Carolyn Swords talked about how many people can’t watch the WNBA because they are not able to access it. The WNBA is not on mainstream networks like ESPN and ESPN do as much as the NBA is. Accessibility to watch the games is a big reason why people are not knowledgeable about the WNBA. Something Noam and I didn’t know I was that the WNBA is played in the summer because the NBA is played in winter and if the WNBA played then they would have to compete with the NBA for broadcasting. During the winter the WNBA players play overseas for their international teams. She also said that’s another reason why (since WNBA players play overseas during the winter and the NBA plays during the winter) it wouldn’t work if the two leaves coordinated into one organization and made a male and female per NBA team. Overall I learned a lot from this interview with Carolyn Swords.
