Interview with Mina White of IMG Modeling

Name: Polly Gilmore

Social Justice Group: 2018-2019, Sexualization of Women in Fashion

Date of Fieldwork: February 21, 2019

Name of Organization: IMG Modeling

Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: Mina White, Director

Type of Fieldwork: Interview

What I did:

We had a phone interview with IMG Modeling director, Mina White.

What I learned:

We learned more about what it’s like to be in the fashion industry from an agents point of view. We talked with Mina about what its like to get models who don’t fit the traditional beauty ideals jobs, and the struggles that come with that. IMG is paving the way to more diversity in the modeling industry and is getting more business because of that.

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

I learned that companies who open up to more diversity get a larger demographic and more customers. I also learned that you can make a lot of change if you help other people work for their cause.
