Interview with Happy Walters

Name: Drew

Social Justice Group: 2018-2019, Sports, Activism & Race

Date of Fieldwork: December 20, 2018

Name of Organization: Catalyst Sports

Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: Happy Walters; CEO of Catalyst Sports

Type of Fieldwork: Interview

What I did:

We met Happy Walters in his hotel to interview him.

What I learned:

I learned that sports agencies support the player that is protesting or donating to charity but not all of the clients support the same thing but the whole agency will. I also learned that all of Happy Walters’ clients have a charity that they support.

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

Through the fieldwork, I learned that Mr. Walters thought that the way Colin Kaepernick did his protest was wrong and if did it differently, his protest would have worked. I also found out that the NBA has handled activism well but the NFL has handled activism horribly.

Drew

Drew is an eighth grade student at LREI. He likes to play soccer and watch football and basketball. Drew is dedicated to issues of race, equality and activism in sports because he is inspired by Colin Kaepernick's and LeBron James' stand to the president and to justice.
