Phone Call With Spurs Coach Ime Udoka and Becky Hammon

Name: Dash

Social Justice Group: 2018-2019, Sports, Activism & Race

Date of Fieldwork: November 26, 2018

Name of Organization: San Antonio Spurs

Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: Ime Udoka Coach of the spurs

Type of Fieldwork: Interview

What I did:

We had a conversation about athletes and there obligation at players.

What I learned:

How athletes can use there platfrom on social media to share what they think. Ime believes that players should do what they want and they don’t have to be activist. Lebron is super active about politics and some players are not.

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

we learned that once a month the spurs head coach and a player or to go to a highschool in a poor area. They teach the kids sports and talk to them. That small act can be very helpful for a kid who is struggling.
