Type of Fieldwork: Film

What I did:

With the women’s education group, I watched a film called Girl Rising. It told multiple stories about young girls and their struggles through life. Many grew up struggling to survive. The one story that really stood out to me was one about a young girl named Amina who was sold and married off and impregnated.

What I learned:

I learn about how this girl didn’t get the support she needed during her pregnancy. She was only 12 and married off to a 40 year old man. She gave birth at home and almost died. Many women die because they don’t have the resources or support to survive their pregnancy. There is no one for these young girls to go to for help.

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

Help needs to be issued to places in need such as Afghanistan where Amina was because it’s not fair for these girls to get pregnant without help. There should be public health facility near every female because they at least need a chance to have a successful pregnancy. Girls shouldn’t be having children when they are so young because their body isn’t ready to have a child. Rules need to be set in place to protect these kids.
