Phone Call With Sam Coleman, an Educator Trying To Make A Change.

Name: Ben Connolly

Social Justice Group: Race and Education

Date of Fieldwork: February 21, 2018

Name of Organization: NYCore

Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: Sam Coleman

Type of Fieldwork: Interview

What I did:

We called Sam on the phone to talk about his experiences as an educator and all the problems he wants to fix.

What I learned:

I learned what a current education really thinks. Sam works at a underfunded school where they get recess once a week because there’s too many students. He was talking about how it’s really hard for just a normal person to take action because it’s such a big topic.

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

I learned that teachers need to be taking action too. It can’t just be companies working on the issue. Parents and teachers need to make a change.
