Marching for change

Name: Grace Burns

Social Justice Group: Maternal/Fetal Care

Date of Fieldwork: January 20, 2018

Name of Organization: Women’s March

Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: Everyone

Type of Fieldwork: Direct Action

What I did:

I attended the Women’s March on January 20 with my mom as a Part of EMC- Every Mother Counts. We took the train up from Franklin street to 72 street and joined the group. We brought signs that we had made in advance that represented that we believe in. We marched for about three hours chanting with the crowd but also marching in silence.

What I learned:

This march wasn’t specifically dedicated to my topic but I learned that there are so many women and men that are dedicated and interested in social issues revolving around women. There are so many people who want to see a change and are taking action to try to make that happen. I felt very inspired being surrounded by these people.

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

On this particular fieldwork, I didn’t learn anything specifically about my topic, but I did learn a lot about people and how New York is a great place to grow up in because you are surrounded by all different types of people interested in social change.
