Volunteering for Stop Handgun Violence

Over the past couple of weeks, our group volunteered for a gun violence organization called Stop Handgun Violence. This organization does a lot of work in educating people about gun violence and the serious negative affects that are born from guns. We were able to get in contact with them through email, and we were really looking to volunteer because we haven’t had that experience yet. Unfortunately they’re located just outside of Boston so it would be difficult. Luckily however, we were able to volunteer remotely. We helped them find interviews and articles related to their organization so that they could better educate even a wider range of people. This was our third fieldwork, and only our first volunteering opportunity. It felt great to actually help in the field. I also learned a lot while searching about this organization. There were so many facts that they were teaching people that I got exposed to during this fieldwork for instance, on the average day in America there are 6.75 deaths related to guns. Facts like these really help us especially for the social justice teach in. This was a great experience and I can’t wait to do more!
