Interview at the VA

Name: Will Martin

Social Justice Group: Veterans/Life After War

Date of Fieldwork: November 15, 2017

Name of Organization: VA NY Health Care Center

Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: We met with three veterans: Charlie, Chris, and the person who set it up Anthony Stamatorous

Type of Fieldwork: Interview

What I did:

We went to the VA NY Health Care Center to interview three veterans.

What I learned:

I learned that before they went into the service you could do what you wanted. When you went into the service you would carry on with school. They get through the day not worried about bullets flying over your head.

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

Through this fieldwork, I learned a ton about important it is to pay attention get informed about veterans. To deal with things like PTSD they have therapy. there are different types of therapy for different problems. While in the military if they did something bad the punishment would be worse than normal. There is such a lack of social justice for veterans. The veterans can transfer what they did in the military to civilian, they can work “through” the military.
