A few days ago my group and I had a fieldwork with Pro-Choice America, we interviewed Anne Bailey.  Anne works for Pro-Choice America. Pro-Choice America uses politics to help elect candidates who believe in pro-choice and make sure that candidates who don’t believe in pro-choice are not in an office. While we were on the phone with Anne, the election was one of the many topics we talked about. She described this year’s election as “scary.” She also explained to us the risks and how there is a lot at stake, for example, The defunding of Planned Parenthood.

Many people do not understand that Planned Parenthood is not just for getting an abortion, (this is one of the biggest misconceptions people make) it is important that people know the truth, which is that Planned parenthood is for ALL reproductive rights services from an abortion to cervical cancer screenings. If this safe haven for many women was defunding it would cause a huge issue for women. Another topic we discussed with Anne was her opinion on the new Texas law. This Law states how all aborted fetuses must be buried. Anne explained to us how she thinks this law is horrible and inhumane because this law is just for women to feel ashamed.People get abortions for so many reasons, some women get pregnant and never wanted to be pregnant, others are too young, and some are even raped. There so many reasons. If you were raped would you want to raise your attackers baby? Anne does not believe that it should be a law that all women have to bury their fetuses because some women are in terrible situations and have horrible pregnancies. Our group agrees, in 2017 we should not be shaming anyone, nor women because of a choice they make for their body. Overall great call and we learned so much more that we didn’t know about our topic.
