Our class with Jumaane Williams

At 2 o’clock on Wednesday, 12/7 our group, prison reform, invited city councilman Jumaane Williams to LREI. Jumaane Williams was elected in 2010 and has been a member ever since. When he arrived our whole grade gathered to talk to heim and ask him questions. He was very nice and it seemed like he enjoyed being there. I learned many things from him such as the fact that a lot of prisons, like Rikers Island, just hold people before they go to trial, then they go to prison somewhere else. It is just a place to keep people while they wait. He told us that he was the first black counsilman with things to deal with like Tourettes and ADHD that had ever been elected that he knew of. Talking to him made me want to learn more about the topic and get my hands dirty. He told us how he was a protest person and really enjoyed protesting and marching for things that he believed in and that were right. He was really nice and answered all of our questions the best that he could. I hope  that in the future our group might be able to meet with him again and march with him, or just help him help people.
