On MLK day, Ciro and I went on a clean up in a dedication of MLK day. It was quite frigid but definitely worth it. We met up with NYC Parks at Idlewild Park, Queens. This coastal park was packed with trash, ever since Hurricane Sandy. Our goal was to try our best to protect and maintain the wetlands. Idlewild Park is home to many creatures and plants. This motivated us to want to work more and more. Around 50 volunteers took part. It was amazing! What I found the most of was…plastic. This disappointed me. Water bottles, Arizona bottles, etc. We are polluting our world- with things that can be reused and recycle! This fieldwork definitely impacted me. The idea of sustainability is about protecting and using the least amount of natural resources we can. With all this trash and waste, we are polluting the world. I learned that one person can do something, but everybody can do something and make a difference. In total, we all collected around 70 yards of trash and collected over 65 tires! I was very proud of our process, and very excited for what is to come next. Together we can all make a difference. Let’s do it.
