Interview With Sam From NYCLU

On January 26 my group and I went to the NYCLU to meet Sam. Sam is a worker at the NYCLU and he focuses on police brutality and he is a lawyer. The ACLU is The American Civil Liberties Union is a nonpartisan, non-profit organization whose stated mission is “to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country. We learned a lot from Sam. Sam thinks that police officers that kill someone on camera realize they are on camera and do it anyway because they are so corrupted in the police system they think that they are doing work. We all felt that the people need a voice in what the police do because they police are suppose to protect us we pay the police to do their job and because of that, we should have a say in what goes on. Things that can make the situation better is to make communities more diverse because communities that are predominately white or black tend not to see the other race and they seem threatened. We need to always be an activist and teach others about the wrongs of police brutality. A police officer needs to be trained racial bias which means that don’t think about race during the job. The people that higher the police officers need to do a better job. Sam also worked on a case X-Ray cameras and how they are used. They are supposedly used to try to find terrorist because it shows the things they have. This something also bad with the police system because this is invading people privacy. We also learned that the government gives too much power to police which is why police officers think that they  could do all the things they do.
