Interview with Arch Puddington, Freedom House

On the 7th of January, our group interviewed the vice president of research at Freedom House, Arch Puddington. Arch talked with us about what Freedom House does, and how freedom of speech plays different roles in different places of the world.

Freedom House takes the role of analyzing and researching freedom of speech on a global scale. One of Freedom House’s more well known pieces of word is called the “Freedom in the World” map, and it illustrates accurately the laws of free speech in different countries.

The map above is one of many variations. More can be found at this link.

The experience we had today, talking with Arch and visiting Freedom House was very educational. We learned a lot about how freedom of speech has changed in the past few decades, and how we can help the cause.

Thank you Arch, for taking the time to interview us, and thank you to all of those responsible for making Freedom House possible.

I am an eighth grader at LREI and my social justice topic is freedom of speech. I chose this as my topic because I was interested in solving problems with free speech and imprisoned writers.
