Trip To Xavier Food Pantry

When we arrived at the food pantry, we signed in at the front and put on aprons, hairnets, and gloves. We began the visit by breaking down boxes. We then sorted and cleaned plastic containers that would be given to the people who visited the food pantry with fruits and vegetables in them. After we had finished doing this, we went over and started sorting, unpacking, and wrapping up other foods such as breads and pastries. This impacted me because there were so many people there volunteering, even before people started coming to the food pantry. Everyone was doing what seemed like small tasks, but put together it would help so many people. This shows that if people come together and help out just a little bit, it helps immensely. Since we were unable to stay for when people actually started coming to the food pantry, we had a couple of questions about this. How many people came to Xavier? How long would the food given to them last? Is everyone allowed in Xavier, or just certain people? We also had some questions about our topic from this fieldwork. How long did this amount of food last for a family, and how can they make it last as long as possible? How much money is saved by going to a food pantry. These are all important questions that we would like to research and find out more about. Overall, I think that this was a good fieldwork, and it left us with some very important questions.
