LSA Fieldwork

On this fieldwork our group went to an organization called LSA. LSA helps families meet their immediate need for food and the longer-term issues of living in poverty. At our stay we helped distribute food and for each family we gave them the appropriate amount of food. We were able to get a tour of the facility which was very nice. We also were also able to talk to the head of the volunteer coordinator about any questions we had. We met many of the workers at LSA and we talked to them about why they joined the pantry. They all had very similar answers like: I really wanted to give back to the community. I really want to give back to the people who live in poverty because I felt what they had to deal with in my childhood. I learned a lot from this fieldwork and I am now aware of how many families are currently living in poverty in the US.

I am an eighth grader at LREI and my social justice project focuses on Family Health Issues in NYC. I want to make NYC a place where people don't have to worry about health issues and/or poverty. I chose learning about family health because I want people to relize how many people are suffering because of health issues in NYC.
