Visit to the Paley Center for Media 11/16

Both women’s groups went to the Paley Center for Media near Rockefeller Center. The Paley Center for Media is located on 52nd and 6th avenue. Caroline, the lady who presented to us, took us to a small conference room. She started off talking about our topics and how what we were focusing on. She then showed us multiple clips of different tv shows, ads, and music videos and how women are portrayed in it. She was showing us how most women are stereotyped. After she showed the different clips she talked to us about it, and what we thought of it, and how women are treated. After that we watched a few more clips from the 80’s and newer tv shows. After each clip we had a discussion about it. We mostly talked about how men are portrayed in music video and how they have to show skin to get more attention. Also, how women are see as weaker ones than men. Or tv shows and how teenagers have to look a certain way to get more guys attention, and how others follow in her footsteps. Another is how men and relationship get in the way of the girls grades. We saw a short clip like this and the girl was saying how she wasn’t as popular and attractive when she was a nerd and didn’t have a boyfriend. But now that she did, her grades dropped and she was failing school. At the end of the meeting we walked out know a lot more knowledge then when we walked in.
