Interview with Anna, 10-2-14

This December, my Social Justice group and I met with Anna, an LREI Alum and rape survivor. We met her for coffee and had an extremely interesting interview.
Anna was a freshman at Hobart University when she was sexually assaulted by multiple collage football players. She immediately wanted to speak out about her experience and get some help. To her surprise, she was accused of lying and the school would not give any consequences to the perpetrators. Even when tests were done and it was proven 100% true, the school wanted to protect their reputation and they just let the rapists have a normal life while Anna was being tortured by her classmates and scared from her experience.
Anna came to speak to us about her experience, her activism work and how we can help. She explains that because she had to go through all of this trauma, she is taking a stand but that shouldn’t stop us from taking a stand along side her. She wanted us to know that to change the horrible rape culture based society, we have to take action before it happens. She kindly connected us to a few contacts gave us plenty of wise advice. She also came to speak at our annual Teach-In to inform and teach the school about the unjust college system and how young people like us are the ones who need to be taking a stand.
Overall, Anna has been such an inspirational person to not only our group but to the world.
