Volunteered at Holy Apostles soup kitchen

Our group had been trying to contact Holy Apostles for a very long time, and we finally heard back form them and were able to volunteer on Monday, February 3rd. We arrived at 10:30am, which was a mistake in communication because we were supposed to be there at 9:30 to prepare the food, but in the end all was well because they were very short staffed. We put on aprons, plastic gloves, and hats, and the people began to come in. It was slow at first because of the snow but we were always kept busy. We all did different jobs, like wrapping spoons in napkins, clearing tables, handing out drinks, and serving food. Holy Apostles serves anyone, if you are homeless or not, and serves a hot well balanced meal 5 days a week. The kitchen serves approximately 1,200 meals a day, and offers counseling and referral services to those who need it.

Holy Apostles is run by 100% volunteers and has a really great environment. We had a really rewarding experience and I hope to go back.
