Veteran Civilian Dialogue

On January 24th, my group and I participated in a Veteran-Civilian Dialogue. First we wen to an exhibit that was of photographs of soldiers during and after the war. The photographs showed ranged from the Mexican war to the most recent wars. It depicted everything from scars and results of the war to the homecoming of the soldiers. After this we went to a Veteran-Civilian Dialogue where we were divided into groups and went to see the exhibit but this time we were to choose an object or person in one of the photographs. After this activity we saw a film about a veteran whose brother, also a veteran, had died in the war. Then we had a discussion about it and ended by sharing our experiences and summing it all up. It was a good experience and we learned the toll war may take on a person

I am an 8th grader in LREI. As I was reading the New York Times one day I saw an article raising awareness about veterans and how the health and labor departments treated them once they returned. The article surprised me and I decided to do some backup research. The facts spoke for themselves and I decided that this unfairness could not happen to our heroes. I am looking to shine a light on the veterans we honor but don't help.
