Interview with Rebecca Summers

On January 15th, my group and I had an interview with Rebecca Summers. She is the Manager of Veteran-Civilian Dialogue. She told us how veterans are not always how people picture them. Also how what some people believe is angry ness, is actually Hyper Vigilance. This is caused by being the stress the war induces on the person. She also spoke to us about PTSD and how it was around much before today. Another fact we found is that since most veterans are only lower or middle class, the elite class has no experience or connection to veterans. Also she told us about one activity she did at one of her Veteran-Civilian Dialogues. She chose three people and made them draw what they believed a veteran looks like. I think we will use this in our Teach-In. Now Our next step will be to attend a Veteran-Civilian Dialogue. image

I am an 8th grader in LREI. As I was reading the New York Times one day I saw an article raising awareness about veterans and how the health and labor departments treated them once they returned. The article surprised me and I decided to do some backup research. The facts spoke for themselves and I decided that this unfairness could not happen to our heroes. I am looking to shine a light on the veterans we honor but don't help.
