Volunteered at Night Food Van at Coalition for the Homeless

On January 20th my social justice group Volunteered with a night food van at Coalition for the Homeless. We arrived at 6:30 and handed out food in the Bronx until 9:30. There were very few people because it was Martin Luther King’s birthday. We handed out sandwiches, oranges, milk, orange juice, and little chocolates. Because there were so few people, we gave out two or three of everything to every person. The experience was really rewarding and I hope to do it regularly in the future. My name is Chiara and I am in the 8th grade at LREI. My social justice topic is poverty and homelessness in NYC and our goal is to redefine the misconception and predisposition of what poverty is and what it looks like. I am passionate about the issue of poverty because is it an alaive and growing issue in the United States and in the world.
