Democracy Now Visit

On Thursday, December 17 my Social Justice group, freedom of speech went to Democracy Now! An independent news program with independent news analyst. We woke up early and I took a cab with my mother to get to W 25th street. We got a tour of the control room prior to the show which showed us the ropes of how the show worked. During our visit we got see and watch the live broadcast go. We also got the pleasure to sit next to the wonderful actor Danny DeVito who is a big Democracy now Fan. He told us that, “It is important to get news like this because they aren’t putting words into peoples mouths they are asking questions and showing answers.” It was great hearing his incite on the show. Watching the broadcast of the show was much different than watching corporate news no commercials they didn’t take in corporate money. As Danny DeVito said and I saw was that during interviews, Amy Goodman (the reporter) didn’t put words into the interviewee mouth. When she asked her questions she didn’t say “This is really important, correct?” She asked questions that came from the viewer she would ask their opinion the way they felt about it. After watching the show Amy Goodman came out with her co-host and we got to talk about the difference of Corporate news and independent. I learned the difference on how they conduct interviews which is much different. I am definitely going to watch Democracy Now! again, I believe our group loved our visit and it was very informative.
