Beyond Measure

Beyond Measure was a very informative film that really made me realize how unfair it was to judge students based off one test. We are so lucky to have projects built into our curriculum but some public schools do not have the resources to do that. Children all have different learning styles and it does not fully represent ones knowledge to simple hand them a test. We learned about how all the classes would be combined so that you are using all your knowledge in one place. This means that your history class would also be your art class because you would be representing your knowledge of history with art. If the teachers, children, and parents are not comfortable with the concept of progressive education, it would be very hard to change the schools learning style. Many adults think that the concept of progressive education is a good idea but they don’t like the thought of having their children being the guinea pigs for an educational experiment. Their kids will only be in that grade once and say the experiment doesn’t work, their children won’t be able to go back and redo that year and if they do, they will be a year behind in school. The thought that is the only chance their kid would have of getting a good education frightens a parent away from the idea of going off the beaten path. This made me realize that there are so many different types of education and each one teaches your from a different angle.

Anna

My name is Anna Faulkner. I am an eighth grader at LREI. I am focusing on education inequality. I chose this topic because I realize we have such amazing opportunities and we must share out opportunities with those who do not have access to good education.
