Volunteering at Sanctuary For Families

On November 12, my group and I visited Sanctuary for Families. Sanctuary for Families is a non profit organization that offers facilities for victims of human trafficking. Sanctuary for Families offers facilities in over thirty languages. My group and I were lucky enough to meet with one of their staff members, Lauren Hindle. Lauren was kind enough to fill us in on sanctuary’s mission. She also gave us other information on human trafficking.  We were given a pamphlet that explained sexual trafficking. We learned what it looked like, how it happens, the signs of an abusive relationship, etc.  After she spoke to us we were able to volunteer at Sanctuary for Families. We worked in a part called the Butterfly Boutique. The Butterfly Boutique is a boutique where the victims that work with Sanctuary can shop. They get to have a real store experience except everything is free. My group and I were able to work in the store and see a few customers. Rose and I were in charge of hanging up the clothing. Campbell and Maxine were in charge of putting the clothing on the hangers. We were able to come together as a team for these customers. We had a lot of help from many great employees. It was a great experience and I really enjoyed it.

I am a fourteen year old student at Little Red School House. I am an activist currently working to stop sexual trafficking in the United States. I am working in a group of four including myself. My group and I are called, Not For Sale. We have worked with a few organizations and have met with various experts such as, Sanctuary For Familes, Peggy Kern, and Sister Mary Ellen O'Boyle. We are currently researching sexual trafficking and are helping to make a difference in the world.
