What I did and what I learned about my topic, activism, social justice work or civil and human rights work from this fieldwork?[:: :

Jonathan Gamberg is the associate director of sports at The CPF. He basically manages the instructors and people that teach kids to love sports and play them. He said that the main issue that children go through is access to resources and that many children who live in areas that don’t have them are struggling in many fields. Gamberg informed us that sports create so many benefits for children, including mental and physical health. Jonathan also told us that people who play sports become more successful at working with others and also with their creativity. For example, 57 percent of those who play sports when younger grow up to be business leaders. “this is only a fragment of what sports can do for children!” said Jonathan. Jonathan’s organization is one of few that actually make a change in our society and it was an honor for us to meet with him face to face. It was a true delight to interview him and his answers were always on point. Jonathan gave us so much information about the organization he is a part of and even more about youth sports.

Pascal Duravcevic

Pascal is currently an eighth-grade student at LREI. He is focusing on youth sports and equity because he has had his own fair share of experiences playing sports but more specifically, basketball. Although he has had a fortunate experience with sports, being very privileged, he still understands and still sees what others go through and issues that pop up in society.
