Type of Fieldwork: Interview

Reflection:

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

Margot and I learned many things from talking to Kelly Moreno, the transitional housing specialist at the National Network to End Domestic Violence. Something specifically significant about this interview than others was the information we collected on the pandemic’s impact on domestic abuse survivors and the housing system. Because of the pandemic, family violence increased, landlords became more selective and comprehensive to rent, and housing availability decreased. Additionally, we learned about the legal process, and the difficulty survivors face when gathering evidence to support their cases. Before working as a transitional housing specialist and advocate for domestic abuse survivors and victims, Kelly Moreno worked to provide legal assistance. Kelly Moreno completely redirected her career path from going into the law business when exposed to such transparency and experience when working with domestic abuse victims and survivors. Not only has Kelly inspired us by her own story but inspired us to start our own; Kelly explained how important spreading awareness is, and from having the privilege of talking with her, we hope to follow through on her request.
