Planned Parenthood / Chakshu Patel Interview

Name: Sierra McDonald

Social Justice Group: 2018-2019, Women: Maternal Health

Date of Fieldwork: November 30, 2018

Name of Organization: Planned Parenthood, Chakshu Patel

Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: Chakshu Patel

Type of Fieldwork: Interview

What I did:

We met with Chakshu Patel and talked to her about her job at Planned Parenthood and what they do. We learned how passionate she is about maternal health and the needs women deserve to have. This organization is supposed to make women feel safe when they come to this organization and that they have a choice to get an abortion if they choose.

What I learned:

We also learned about all of the protests outside Planned Parenthood and her ideas about the subject. People protest because they are “pro-life” however many people don’t understand what it means to be pregnant to early in life and not be ready for a child or afford it. Planned Parenthood is meant to be a non-judging organization to help women and make sure they have a choice.

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

This connects to social Justice issues in the world because women go there because they feel they do not have another choice and if planned Parenthood were to not be reimbursed so many women would have a much smaller chance of getting help.
