Lift Every Vote Fieldwork

Name:

Social Justice Group: 2018-2019

Date of Fieldwork: October 1, 2018

Name of Organization: Lift Every Vote

Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: Molly Harris, Brigette Olsen

Type of Fieldwork: Direct Action

What I did:

My grade and I wrote 247 postcards to help pass Amendment 4. The Amendment needs 60% of the votes to pass.

What I learned:

We learned about Amendment 4, an Amendment to re-enfranchise felons, there are 1.5 million felons. These post cards help edge them to vote which would help Amendment 4 be passed. We sent post cards because when you get a postcard in the mail you read it write away and they would see a handwritten note.

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

Throughout the fieldwork I learned that just writing a postcard to people to get them to vote is very helpful and will give them confidence. It takes a lot of work to get someone to vote and the way we did it included hand writing. I hope that the postcard will effect the people we sent them to so they will vote and help pass Amendment 4.
