Name: Marlowe

Social Justice Group: DACA and Immigration

Date of Fieldwork: December 1, 2018

Name of Organization: Candice Cho

Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: Candice Cho head of the New York City Law Department

Type of Fieldwork:

What I did:

During this fieldwork we interviewed Candice Cho the chief of staff at the New York City Law Department. We sat down with her for about an hour discussing all different types of topics within the main frame of Immigration.

What I learned:

Through this fieldwork we learned about the things it takes to form laws about immigration and the actual commuication that goes into the New York City government. Before I thought that if they wanted to communicate with the mayors office it would be a quick phone call but after meeting with Candice I was suprised to find out how slow the process it. She says it takes many drafts of writing, just to communicate with the office when it comes to emails and letters.

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

In terms of social justice work and civil human rights work we did not learn much from this fieldwork. Overall it was more of a law based field work inwhich we learned how laws were structured and formed in our state. Overall this fieldwork was great and I loved learning from an inside source what New York City is doing to create laws and the frames behind them.
