Interview with Patrick Savage

Name: Freddie

Social Justice Group: Veterans/Life After War

Date of Fieldwork: February 23, 2018

Name of Organization: Morgan Stanley

Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: Patrick Savage

Type of Fieldwork: Interview

What I did:

We went to Morgan Stanley in Times Square to meet with a friend of Gus’s dad, Patrick Savage. We interviewed him on his experience in the military.

What I learned:

We learned that Patrick Savage was military intelligence, and was deployed twice. He wasn’t in any action. He told us that he got access to his benefits fairly quickly, while many others can have to wait a very long time.

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

We learned that there is a lack of access to benefits for many veterans, and a very confusing way of getting them. Unless you tell them that you got an injury, they won’t provide the health care for the injury.
