Beyond Coal Campaign Rally: City Hall 11/24/15

We went to a rally at city hall organized by the beyond coal campaign. A campaign commited to shutting down all of the coal factories in America. At the rally all whole bunch of people from around New York and us rallied at city hall and listened to various political leaders speak about why New York should stop bailing out coal factories. We learned that New York City can be run off of renewable recources witch would be beneficial for the environment. We also learned that the coal factories aren’t even profitable anymore, they are losing money. The biggest downside would be that the people who work at the factories would lose their jobs, but it would be cheaper for the government to pay for their retraining then to continue to pay for these bailouts. We also got a handout fo a climate change march around city hall on November the 28. We learned and met with people from many organizations and hope to get in touch with them. Beyond coal is planning to get rid of all the coal plants in the United States by 2030, we are hoping to help them acheive that goal.FullSizeRender (5) FullSizeRender (6) FullSizeRender (7) FullSizeRender (8)Screen Shot 2015-11-24 at 2.38.09 PMScreen Shot 2015-11-24 at 2.37.13 PM

Hi, my name is Graham Ferguson and I am a LREI eight grader. My social justice topic is Climate Change. I chose Climate Change because it affects everyone; if we don't do something fast we won't have a world to live in and to have our other problems in.
