Know Your Rights Workshop—by Ashley Coneys

On December 4th my group and I were lucky to have a woman named Ashley Coneys come to our classroom to conduct one of her “Know Your Rights” workshops. Ashley Coneys is the head project organizer at an organization named the PROP, Police Reform Organizing Project. We were introduced to Ashley during our previous interview with Robert Gangi and we were able to learn more about her and schedule a time for her to visit our class. This workshop was a great educational experience for not only our group, but the whole 8th grade. During her workshop, Ashley taught the class about knowing and securing your rights in police encounters and how to defuse a situation. I believe that the strategies and rights that she taught us are very important and most people don’t know that they possess these rights. Overall, it was a great experience to have Ashley come in and teach us about how to conduct ourselves in the case of a police encounter.

Our grade sits and listens as Ashley conducts her workshop.
