Lecture at NYU

My social justice group nervously walked into the NYU building, not really knowing what to expect. We made the wrong turn a few times, but eventually found what we were looking for.  As we took our seats in the lecture room I looked around and noticed my surroundings; mostly college student, presumably NYU, taking out their laptops ready to take notes, ask questions, possibly a distract themselves.  As we waited for the event to start, we noticed a student from Columbia who spoke at the rally sitting across the room from us.  As the event started , we saw Vanessa Grigoriadis, who we have previously interviewed, and one other women who was later introduced as Marybeth Seitz-Brown.

As the talk begun we got highly involved.  Many things were discussed, there was a thorough description of the rally at Columbia, we discussed survivor support, and how to teach children from a young age about boundaries and what is okay.  We didn’t think it would be a place to take notes but we ended up pulling out our phones and writing quotes down.  None of us asked any questions, due to probable nervousness and having a deep understanding of the topic already.

After the event we ended we got up and talked to Vannessa and Marybeth. Exchanged contacts and made our way out.

Looking back on the event I was very glad I went.  It was interesting hearing NYU students viewpoints as well as expert’s. This was different than any of the field works we had done in the past.
