On Friday, December 12th my social justice group and I were planning to meet Peggy Kern. Peggy Kern is the author who wrote, what is now one of my favorite books, Little Peach. Every member of our group has read the amazing story and we were so excited to meet her. When we went to the library to discuss briefly what we were going to ask her when she arrived, we noticed two women come into the lobby. When Jen introduced us to both women, I registered that one of them was obviously Peggy, but the other woman was Patricia Mccormick who is the author of another one of my favorite books, Sold. I was definitely not expecting to see her here, but I was extremely thrilled that I got to meet her even thought it was very very quick. We introduced ourselves to Peggy and she warmly hugged all of us, which I think eliminated most of our nerves. As soon as we went into the library we immediately began learning so many things we didn’t know previously. She answered all of our burning questions with detail and even pictures of here research before writing the book. Other than how interesting she was, she was one of the nicest and most genuine people I’ve ever met which definitely came in handy when we were all a bit anxious or tense about interviewing someone we look up to a lot. After us interviewing her on the book, we brought into one the 8th grade classrooms to further discuss with the rest of the grade. Again, I think her laid-back attitude probably loosened everyone up and made it a lot easier for people to answer questions. She showed pictures of her experience, read excerpts from the book, answered everyone’s questions and was very informative about the topic. A huge thanks to Peggy for being interviewed by us and speaking to our grade!
