Women in Need (WIN) 11/20/14

IMG_1759This past Thursday the 20th of November my group and I visited the Women in Need organization (WIN). This organization helps families, especially women. The organization helps women get housing, food and a job. The place that we visited had a children daycare for the kids that had to be. Taken care of if the parent was busy. Those are the kids that we did an activity with. We made hand turkeys since thanksgiving was a week away.

When we got to the building we were very surprised about the fact that it had very good security. We all had to hand our student IDs and sign in at the front desk. We were surprised because I thought that people were careless but it showed that some people do care about people in need. When we got into the building, we walked down a corridor until we got to the room where we were going to volunteer. The kids were all very excited to work with us.

While we were volunteering I felt extremely good about what we were doing and how grateful the children felt that we were there. They were all smiling and laughing and it was all very fun. When it came towards the end, instead of making hand turkeys we were just talking and learning about them and their families. It was very fun and I would like to repeat it. The kids were also extremely excited abou us maybe coming back.

I'm an 8th grader at Little Red school House and Elisabeth Irwin High School. I'm in a group that is trying to help women and children in poverty. My group and I feel very passionately about this topic and want to help as much as we can. I also want to understand more about the topic and how we can help.
