I Funny by James Patterson

This is my last book review of fourth grade. I chose to do a diorama because I enjoy working with clay and model magic.  Well here it is. This scene is important because this is the first time that Jamie performs at a comedy completion. Also, this is when his friends get mad at him for making jokes about them during his act. He says. “Who needs joke books when I have you guys?” Jamie regrets making fun of his friends, but When Jamie gets home, all of his friends are there. Jamie says that he is sorry and will never do that again. They all have a party and are happy.

Dragonbreath no such thing as ghosts by Ursula Vernon

imgres Have you ever wondered what it would be like in a haunted house as a dragon who can barely breathe fire? Well this is the the book you are looking for. This book is creepy but some of it is funny. It all happens on Halloween when the school bully Big Eddie dares Danny, Wendell and Christiana to go into a haunted house. Then the doors lock and they are stuck in the house and they have to find a way out.

The plot is the ghost and big Eddie are trying to scare Danny and his friends but they don’t know that they are both scaring them. Danny is brave for example he always goes first up the stairs. Also Danny believes in magical things for example he believes that the ghost is real. He is also optimistic. When Danny was lost he was optimistic and trusted a rat because he trusted a rat in one of his other adventures (books). One of the most interesting parts in the book is when they see the clown for the first time and Danny breathes fire. Danny only breathes fire under pressure. Also I liked the part when Danny, Wendell and Christiana find the bathroom and then the picture on the wall changes. Something that changes the direction of the story is when the door at the end of door opens, sorry I can’t spoil the book.

I enjoyed this book because I don’t like things that are too scary but there were some creepy parts of the book. For example when they see ooze dripping from the wall or when they hear sharp claws scratching doors. I would recommend this book because it’s interesting and I think it is good for people who like scary books.  A connection I have is once I went into a haunted house and I was super scared. I would give this book 4 stars, I really liked it.

The Chocolate Touch, by Patrick Skene Catling

This book is called “The Chocolate Touch” by Patrick Skene Catling.  The main character is John Midas.  He is a young boy who is very selfish and loves chocolate. One day he finds a coin on the street that has a chocolate bar on one side and a  fat boy on the other side, and it says “JM”.  He takes this coin to a candy shop and he says to the man,  “I only have this money. Do you accept it here?”  And then the man says,  “Yes, that is the only kind we take.”  So John pays the man and buys a box of chocolate and goes back to his house and puts in under his bed.  At night,  he takes the chocolate out and eats it all and then in the morning when he is brushing his teeth, he says to  his sister,  “Did you get chocolate flavored toothpaste?” because the toothpaste turns to chocolate. John then goes to breakfast and his food turns to chocolate and he loves it.  When he goes to school,  everything there turns to chocolate including his pencil, his lunch, and his glove.

His chocolate touch gets stronger.  At first only the piece of the object that went in his mouth turned to chocolate,    but then when he put anything in his mouth the whole thing turned to chocolate. For example, his trumpet turned to chocolate at band practice. He gets really embarrassed and sad and he runs out of school and goes home. He plans never to go back to school. He asks his dad to take him to the doctor who says he cannot help him.  John has an idea to go to the chocolate store because he thinks the man can help, but the store is gone and there is a sign that says, “for sale” and he starts crying.  He goes home to tell his mom that he has a chocolate touch and she starts crying and he kisses her on the cheek and she turns into a giant chocolate statue.  He gets really scared and runs back to the chocolate store where it was and it was there and he says to the owner who sold him the chocolate earlier, “Help me my mom has turned to chocolate and you need to fix this.”  The man says, “If you have the choice to have  your mother alive and still have the chocolate touch or don’t have the chocolate touch and have your mother be a chocolate statue what would you choose?”  John made the decision to…. (read the book to find out).

I enjoyed the book because of the adventure and the problem was interesting.  I liked when John ate the whole toothpaste tube because it was funny.  I also liked when he ate his glove and the school bully wanted to eat some too and then the school bully spat it out because it gave John the advantage of having the chocolate touch but then he learned it isn’t an advantage.  I also liked when John bit his best friend’s coin because he thought it wasn’t real silver and he bit it in half.  It showed that it wasn’t an advantage at all and just made him lose his best friend.

I would recommend this book to someone who likes funny and interesting books.  I would give this four and half stars because sometimes there was stuff that happened and I couldn’t figure it out.

Who is Bill Gates? by Patricia Brennan Demuth

imgres-1Who Is Bill Gates? is about Bill Gates’s life from from being a poor boy in Seattle to a very rich man because of Microsoft.  It was not all easy because his friend who made Microsoft with him got very sick and Bill Gates had to run the business by himself.

Bill Gates was very smart even when he was young. When Bill was seven he read the whole encyclopedia. When he was 11 he entered a contest to memorize a sermon from church. He won a dinner at the top of the Space Needle a restaurant that is really tall! School was not fun for Bill because it was boring to him and he was teased for being smart.  Later he said “Be nice to nerds. Chances are you’ll end up working for one.” Bill moved school in 7th grade to an  all boys school called Lakeside.  In 1968 Bill was shown the new computer lab but there were no computers because personal computers were not made yet. There were only million dollar ones.  So the school bought a teletype machine. That is a thing with a phone cord that is connected to a fancy computer. You put commands in and they come back in letters. That was the beginning of Bill Gates and computers.

I enjoyed the book.  First, because I like to learn about computers.  Second, Bill Gates has had an interesting life.  Finally, he has said some encouraging things about being nice and a nerd. I would recommend this book to kids who like to know more about different people. I give this book five out of five stars.
