It starts up when Ruby the main character is at a party. They turned on the radio and they heard that the rain is killer if you touch it you die. But it doesn’t affect animals. Then Casper ran out into the rain, after he came in he started throwing up. Zach’s mom took Ruby and Casper to the hospital but she dropped of Ruby first at her house. Her step dad, mom, baby brother were still all ok, but then her mom hugged her and the next day she died with the baby brother. There were people rioting everywhere for supplies. Ruby was in solitary for a while because the step dad didn’t know if she had the rain disease or not so she was in the closet until her mom died.

Ruby is a spoiled 15 year old. She craves her phone while people are getting killed. And you’ll find a quarter of the book about her complaining about her makeup. She is British person and she is not an apocalypse survivor.

They were stuck in the house for a while because there were people that had guns and they would get killed immediately so they didn’t go out for a while. You would think. After time had fixed that Ruby and her step dad went to the supermarket. They couldn’t find anything but plants. Ruby took some flowers for her dead mom and dead baby brother. Then the step dad noticed something he noticed that the plants have water and he thought that they hadn’t been changed in a while so he took the muggy water and drank so much. They were stuck in there for a while. There were still people outside wanting to get in. Finally it all calmed down, they went out and looted some houses but they didn’t find anything. But other than that no one was there.

On the next errand Ruby found some animals that she took home. After that Ruby was stuck in the house for a long time. But then she ran out of water, so she went out and found a nerd from her school in a house. They had some water and a little girl who didn’t talk. The nerd’s name was Darius Spratt and she didn’t really know him but she recognized him. He said that there was people trapped into the school. She went there and found a bunch of men. There was a key and she let them go. She wanted to go to London to find her real dad. She didn’t have a licence yet but she wanted to drive the car to London. The good thing is that it’s only a two hour drive but they get sidetracked a lot so it’s a lot longer than you think, so yeah. Will she get to london and see her dad or will she die from the rain? Find out in the book H20!

I do think i’ll recommend this book because it’s young adult. So I don’t think your parents will let you read this unless your parents are like mine so yeah. I think I would rate this book from 1-5 stars 5 for me but probably not you. But yeah if you’re ready for people dying and alcohol read it!

Holes By Luis Sachar

The book I read is called Holes. Holes about a boy who is accused of a crime that he is not responsible for. This boy is named Stanley Yelnats. When something bad happens, he and his family blame it on their no-good-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather. When he is sent to Camp Green Lake, a prison camp, he has to get used to a lot of things- manual labor and mean people. Just with those two things what kind of community do you think this is?

Stanley is smart, kind and brave. Stanley is smart because he is trying to stay out of fights when he knows it will just get him into more trouble. He is not like the other kids at the Camp Green Lake. He is not all bad, because as I said before he didn’t even commit a crime. He isn’t scary; the kids there just think he is because he is so big. It makes him feel uncomfortable because that is not the true him. Stanley is kind because not only does he teach his friend Zero to read and recognize the alphabet, but he also becomes a true friend to him and they have some hard times together. Stanley is brave because he has a lot of problems in this book and he always takes them head-on like a bull spearing his problems with his horns.

One interesting part was when Stanley was just getting used to the way of life at Camp Green Lake and he was thinking that all the kids were bad and that he was better than all of them. Eventually, he started to see the good in all of them. Another eye-opening part is when Stanley was hearing everybody’s criminal stories. That was interesting to me because it was fun to hear everyone’s backstory because it was taking a break from hearing about Stanley. I could tell that it was also fascinating for Stanley because Louis Sachar described the moment so well. Additionally, a part that helped me form a picture in my mind was when Stanley told all his friends his story about how he had “stolen” the shoes. I could picture the shoes falling from the sky and him not knowing what to do except running home with the shoes so his dad could recycle them. When Stanley was done everybody started laughing and it was as if their crimes were huge and his was tiny. Some beautiful language that Sachar uses to describe Stanley was, “that his hands and muscles weren’t the only thing that had hardened his heart had hardened too”. This happened right after Zero asked Stanley to teach him to read and Stanley didn’t want to do it at first. Even after these good things about Stanley, I probably still would not want him to be my friend.

This book is an easy favorite. Top 15 on my list. You know how much I liked this book? I would consider writing a letter to Louis Sachar. That’s how much I loved this book. It always makes you think what is going to happen next in Stanley’s imprisoned life. This book reminds me of Pilfer Academy. The two books are alike because they both have two kids that hate what their life is so they make a change. Zero and Stanley make a lot of changes to their life. This book is an easy five stars.

The News Crew, By Walter Dean-Myers

One book that I read this month and enjoyed was the News Crew. The News Crew is a series and the first book is called The News Crew. The book is written by Walter Dean Myers. The main character in the News Crew is Zander. Xander goes to school at DaVinci Academy in Harlem, New York. The issue that the main character goes through is that the assistant principal wants him expelled. The book takes place in modern day.

Zander is brave, smart and curious. He is brave because he stands up to Mr. Culpeper, the vice principal when he wants to throw Zander out of the school. The tension between the two of them started when he was misbehaving in the cafeteria. The vice principal wants to expel Zander because he is not gifted enough to go to a school for the gifted.  He is smart because he writes in his free time. He is curious because he always wants to know about a topic when he hears it. He writes about the topics that he is curious about for the Cruisers, the school newspaper.

One part of the book that I enjoyed was when the school newspaper kids met in the media room to talk about what they would write about. This was one of my favorite parts because it educated me on world history. It taught me that the civil rights movement is still a huge issue now. Another part I enjoyed was when Zander saw Mr. Culpeper in the hallway and ran away. It was one of my favorite parts because it was really funny in the illustration. It is also one of my favorite parts because the author used some interesting words like   to describe the moment. One big decision that my main character made was to stand mischievous. to Mr. Culpeper because that would have expelled him from the school. Don’t get me wrong Zander is smart but he makes some bad decisions. One time he went into the girls’ bathroom when he should have gone to the boys.
I enjoyed the book a lot because it fit my reading style, a fast moving pace. Another reason why I enjoyed the book was because I felt I could relate to the adjectives that I would describe him as, curious, smart and brave. I think many people can relate to the book and that is why I think other people would enjoy it. I would recommend this book because everyone can relate to the book in different ways, which will allow lots of people to enjoy the book. The News Crew can relate to any book that highlights a character who goes to school. Some examples of books are: Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Year of the Griffin and Percy Jackson and the lightning thief. (The beginning of the book). The book can connect to everyone in our fourth grade because everyone is a news reporter and Zander, the main character is a News reporter. I would give the book five stars.

The Report Card

A good book I read is called, The Report Card. The Author is Andrew Clements (He also wrote Frindle which is another good book). It takes place in Philbrook Elementary School. It is about a girl named Nora Rose Rowley. She is a genius but she doesn’t want anyone to know. She has Hyperthymesia (which means she remember pretty much everything) but nobody knows. not even her parents. Her best friend Stephen is a good hardworking kid but she feels like he thinks he’s stupid. And she doesn’t think he’s stupid at all. So she get bad grades (on purpose) to prove he’s not stupid. But then her parents get the principal and all the teachers involved.

Then Nora comes up with a plan with Stephen to get all the kids in the school get bad grades on purpose and then it turns into a big mess. If you don’t want to know what happens in the end don’t read the rest of this paragraph. So there is a big meeting and Stephen’s parents are there and Nora’s parents are there and all the teachers, the principal, the superintendent and of course, Nora and Stephen. Then at the meeting Nora finds out that Stephen did a lot without her knowing and a lot of kids listened to Stephen. If you want to know what Nora does next you’ll have to read the book.

I liked this book a lot because I like Nora and she is an interesting person and I like the fact she is so smart but doesn’t tell anyone. It’s not my favorite book but I still liked it. I would rate it 3 stars

Half Magic by Edward Eager

The title of the book that I read was Half Magic and it was written by Half_MagicEdward Eager. This book is about Jane is roughly fourteen, Mark is roughly twelve , Katharine is definitely nine and Martha is I think five or six. All four of them are siblings. They find a coin but no ordinary coin, it can grant wishes but only by halves. An example of this is, if you where to wish that you were in China you would only go half the way there! There are so many settings in this book but the kind of main one is the house. I think it takes place in the 19 hundreds because of their cloths. And the vehicles.

I would describe Jane as fierce, kind and scared. I think Jane is fierce because she never gives up and always protects her family. I think Jane is kind because she is always nice to people no matter what. I think Jane is scared in an emotional way not like scared of a monster or something. I think this because she is scared about what is going to happen next in her life. Some parts of the book that I found interesting were when Jane found the coin. I found this interesting  because right then you knew that the adventure would start and you fest exited. Something else that I found interesting was that the mom experienced the magic too. That was interesting because in most books the moms do not experience what the whole book is about. Like in some of the Harry Potters she just hears about what is happening and is not in the whole seen but in some books she is but that is just my opinion.

I enjoyed this book a lot because it is very exciting and you never know what the next disaster will be. I will recommend this book to people who likes fantasy. I also recommend this book to people who like history and knowing what is going to happen in the future. It’s kind of like seeing the future and maybe predicting it. Some other books and authors that write like Edward Eager is an author named Roald Dahl. I think this because he kind of writes like Edward Eager. I think this because there style and stories are alike and their pictures are a little alike. I would rate this book five stars and it is an awesome book!

Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli

Antonio

The book I read is called Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli. The book is about a boy named Jeffrey Magee who is homeless. After his parents died he moved to his Aunt’s house (like Harry Potter) but then ran away because the Aunt and Uncle hated each other. During the story he moves into four different homes. The story takes place in Two Mills, Pennsylvania.

Maniac is really generous because he always helps people out and fixes problems. There was a time when he helped a family do everything like dishes, cleaning, and repairing a stove. He is really talented at everything because he always scores a touchdown or wins races. For example he scored 49 touchdowns in one game making the score 295 Magee 0 Hands Down, which was his friend’s team. He is also very encouraging to people around him. He suggested to his friends to go to school even if they didn’t want to go. My favorite part in the book was when he first moved into a house with a girl named Amanda Beals. She was so nice and offered him books to read. Another good part was when he got a baseball glove that belonged to his old friend named Grayson for Christmas. The funniest part was when he was in church and he screamed A-MEN! and everyone laughed because he just couldn’t hold it in anymore. It was contagious.

I really enjoyed this book because it was an awesome adventure about a cool character. He shows us how to unite a black and white town. Maniac Magee made me laugh when he’d make jokes about himself. He joked about how he was so good at everything. I recommend this book because you can read it quickly and easy. I would recommend it to people who like adventure novels and stories about boys. This book is unique and I never read anything like it. Maniac Magee is like no other book that I read because it is about a homeless boy who is awesome at everything he does. I don’t know why or how.

I give Maniac Magee ***** STARS

This book takes place at all the character’s houses, and their school. The time in this book is modern day.

The most interesting part of the book for me was when the “girl war” started. It made me want to read more. It was when Alexia started being mean to Anna, Danielle, and Jessica. She kept making them not be friends and she did it to make Jessica feel bad for standing up to Alexia. Another thing about this book is that it switches perspectives a lot, if you like books that change perspectives this is the book for you.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved each character. The book made more sense because the book had different characters perspectives it made me want to read more and more and more. I would recommend this book to people who love prospective changes. Also I think this book is good for age seven and up. I would recommend to people who like all sorts of books! This book falls in many different categories. If you read Wonder, Out Of My Mind, or any books by Wendy Mass, then you’ll have a fun time reading this book. I would rate this book !

Big Nate Goes For Broke, Lincoln Peirce

51JKBRNUFsL._SY344_BO1,204,203,200_Nate is a normal kid. Well not normal, he knows, unlike most people, he was born to be great. People just don’t know it yet. He invented the greatest club at school, The Doodlers. They draw cartoons and play games! And let’s face it, it really is the best club. I mean, in PS.38, there are clubs like the Knit Pickers, and really, who wants to spend the day knitting? There’s also the Wizards and Witches, who pretend that they have magic powers.   And then there are the Problem Solvers – who wants to spend spare time doing math?  And The Spotlight Club, they sing EVERYTHING with the hopes of being  “discovered.”  Also, there is the School “Beautification” Society, which is exactly what it sounds like.

Jefferson, let’s just say, arch enemy of PS.38. Dee Dee is a really really good drawer. Francis, one of Nate’s best friends, says we should ask her to join the doodlers. Dee Dee is way too dramatic. Take the most dramatic person you know multiply that by 10,000 and you have Dee Dee. Nate says he’s not asking Dee Dee to join the club. Francis just leaves. Teddy’s Nate’s other friend. So they shoot for it. Nate choose evens, so Teddy has odds. One, two, three, shoot! Aw, man! Teddy won! Great, now Nate has to ask Dee Dee.  Nate goes over to ask Dee Dee,  “ I saw that poster you made for the dance, and I thought you might maybe want to…um…”

“ Oh!” she says “ I’d love to go to the dance with you!” Oh no. When they go to the dance there’s a problem in the sprinklers so school is postponed. But this bad. School will still be going on, but at Jefferson.

Seriously! Someone had to pick our School’s enemy! The most inspiring, wonderful, fantastic, great kid, has to go to the worst school! Life there is not the best. Nolan the bully of Jefferson, thinks he’s the best at everything. But not for long. Light bulb! Nate had the most brilliant, bedazzling, radiant, splendid Idea! He would make a new contest, not: football, basketball, soccer, baseball and other things but, the Ultimate Snowdown.

These books cracked me up! It’s about a kid who always gets detention and bad grades and knows he’s born to be great. This book take place in Nate’s school, PS. 38. He’s a sixth grader who loves to have fun! Join Nate in an adventure through embarrassing and exciting moments! It’s a really funny series! I would recommend it to people who read, Sisters, Smile, Diary Of a Wimpy Kid and the Baby Sitters Club also if you like books with comics and humor. I would rate the whole series 5 *’s   it’s a book that you can’t stop reading. I hope you read it. And if you don’t, you’re missing out on a lot!
