A Crooked Kind of Perfect

1535111Over the summer I read a book called a Crooked Kind of Perfect written by a women named Linda Urban.  This book is about a ten year old girl named Zoe Elias that wanted to be a piano prodigy and play Carnegie Hall when she was older. She told her parents to buy her a piano but her dad came home with an organ.

Learning versions of old TV theme songs on the organ was definitely not the same as playing Carnegie Hall and  having to play an organ wasn’t the only bad thing about her life.  Zoe’s mom was always at work, her dad was at home trying to find a job and a strange boy from school named Wheeler was always following her home to hang out with Zoe’s dad.  Right when Zoe thinks everything is going wrong she enters the annual perfor-O-rama organ competition and realizes that not everything needs to be perfect and can sometimes be a little off center.

To be honest, at the beginning of the book I didn’t think it was going to like it, but when I kept reading I kept liking it more and more. The first thing I really liked was that I was the same age as the main character so I was able to relate to her a lot.  I also liked that the book was a fiction book but the theme was very realistic. Even though I  liked the book in general, I thought that the chapters were really short and would have loved to learn a little more about the characters and about what was happening before each chapter ended. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for an easy read book with a  happy ending. I would rate this book 4 ½ stars.

Because of Mr. Terupt

imgresThe best days of school are the ones where you actually have fun learning. That’s everyday in Mr.Terupt’s class. The book because of Mr. Terupt was written by Rob Buyea. The story is about a fifth grade teacher at  the Snow Hill School who has an interesting class. Jessica, Alexia, Peter, Danielle, Luke, Anna and Jeffery are all very different but they all like their teacher. One day, they get to play in the snow because the students had been on good behavior. Things get out of control and something terrible happens.

Mr. Terupt is kind, fun and creative. I think he is kind because he treats everyone equally and is never unfair. He is fun because he does cool learning activities like the dollar word project. Mr. Terupt assigned every letter in the alphabet a number, and the students had to create a word that added to one hundred. I also think he is creative because he thinks of unique ways to teach. One of my favorite parts of the book is when the kids go to the collaborative center. The collaborative center is a class for kids with special needs. I like it because all the students get along. Another interesting part of the book is the last day of school. I like this part because some really cool things happen  (I can’t tell you because it will spoil the ending).

I really, really liked the book. I enjoyed it because it is something that could happen in real life, but the author’s adds a twist. I think that it is very interesting and you should read it. There is a sequel to this book that I also read and it was really good as well. I give this book a 5 star rating.

A Mango Shaped Space

imgres

I read a book called A Mango Shaped Space by Wendy Mass. The book is about a girl named Mia who sees colors in her head. She has something called synthesia. Many people have it but its always different for everyone. Some people have it when they smell and some when they taste. Its called a mango shape space because she has a cat named mango that means everything to her the rest  I can’t tell because it spoils it. Mia goes in a group with a bunch of people with the same thing  as her and one girl said that she did acupuncture and she saw the colors in different ways. The colors were more like clouds of colors.

Throughout the book, Mia tells you about how she gets through school and how her friends understand the colors. Mia thought everyone saw colors until one day in third grade the teacher asked her to write down her thinking on the board. She thought it would be correct to write them in their color. The teacher thought it was ridiculous and when she said she saw colors she thought she was trying to be funny and sent her to the principal. The principal called her parents and mia didn’t know what to say so  she said it was a joke.

Her cat Mango is everything to her because when her grandpa died she saw him and he had the same eyes as her grandpa. I think Mango reminds her of her grandpa. In the book she said that she had a good relationship with her grandpa so mango makes her feel like a part of grandpa lives in Mango.

I highly recommend this book a lot it is one of those books that you can read as many times as you want and is as good when you read it the first time. If i give this book a rating it would be a ***** star rating. I don’t think just one type of person i think everyone would love it.

A Wrinkle In Time

The book A Wrinkle in Time is about a girl named Meg who goes on an adventure to find her runaway dad. She goes with her little brother Charles Wallace, her friend Calvin, and the witches Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs.Who, and Mrs.Witch. The book was written by Madeleine L’Engles. Meg goes to find her father in five different dimensions. The witches can go through dimensions by tessering. Tessering is like shortening distances so you can get to places quickly. Tessering is also known as wrinkling because if an ant were to walk across a cloth  wouldn’t it be easier just to shrivel it to a smaller piece of cloth and walk less? That is how the witches travel.

Meg is a very caring person because when her brother got taken over by IT she went back and saved him. She is also very brave and loving. When she went to look for her father she tried to defeat IT. IT is an evil shadow that is trying to take over the universe. The witches bought Meg, Charles and Calvin to this planet called Camazotz. In Camazotz all the people are exactly the same because they are controlled by IT. IT is the thing that controls Camazotz.

I enjoyed the book very much because it was easy level.  It had very good language and it left you wanting to read more. I would recommend this book because i think people would enjoy reading it.If i had to rate this book I would rate it 5 stars.

The book Wonder is about a boy named August who is deformed. It was written by  R.J. Palacio. In the book there is a kid named August who is deformed. He was getting home schooled up to middle school but his parents decided for him to go to a real school. Most of the book takes place in Beecher Prep (his school). So when he gets to school a lot of kids are mean to him. He had an old friend named Christopher. They both like Star Wars, and started growing a braid in the back of their head. Other then his deformity, August  is totally normal.

At school August meets some really nice people. Like his friends Summer and Jack Will. Throughout the school year people get adjusted  to August’s face, but most of the kids still did not want to be friends with him. Throughout the book the perspective of the character changes so you can see what all the other people think about him. The author has divided these into parts and there are seven parts in the book, but I actually have a special edition that has eight parts and the eighth part is the bully’s perspective.

I really liked the book because it was super  interesting seeing how he gets through life. I also liked it because it is hard for me to find good books and this was amazing. If you have a hard time finding good books you should read this book. Even if you do not have a hard time finding books you should read it. I would give it a *****star rating.
